Bodysight<\/em> is a circular installation of five monitors with five simultaneous soundtracks which surrounds you. The videodance content of the ‘sculpture’ explores views of London from the perspective of a dancer’s body. The dancer performs choreographed material created for three London sites. The piece redirects your lines of focus and attention and explores the performative qualities of moving image and located sound. It challenges the assumption that the dancer’s body is an object to be looked at; it offers you an environmental experience similar to that which the dancing body can ‘see’ and ‘hear’ in the moment of dance.\n <\/p>\n

Bodysight<\/em> was created by choreographer\/video artist Sophia Lycouris and digital artist Konstantinos Papakostas with performer Debbie Ward, composer Phil Durrant, costume designer Katia Fioretino, labanotator Joukje Kolff and documentator Ange Taggart. Sophia is a London-based dance and video artist, performer, company director and academic with background in dance. Through collaborative projects, she creates interdisciplinary and multimedia work (including digital media) which bring together elements of movement, sound and image as part of hybrid environments in site-specific and gallery spaces. In 1997 she founded kunstwerk-blend, a project-based company committed to interdisciplinary, hybrid and collaborative work. Konstantinos Papakostas is a London-based digital artist and interactive designer. He has created multimedia interactive sculptures, focusing on the complex relationship between technology and our continuously changing self within our nature. He has also been involved in many web-based interactive projects including Soundropia, Visual Scapes and Sony Playstation2. Bodysight has been supported by The Jerwood Space, British Airways – London Eye, The Nottingham Trent University, Architecture Foundation and the Arts and Humanities Research Board with a Fellowship in the Creative and Performing Arts.<\/p>\n

A Capture<\/em> commission<\/p>\n

Capture<\/em> (2001-2008) was an Arts Council England fund managed by PORTLAND GREENTM<\/sup> from 2004 until 2008. It commissioned original art works that challenged the concept of screen-based dance by exploring new relationships between dance and film, video, new media and installation. Applications were encouraged from both established and emerging artists practising in the fields of dance, film, video, new media, installation and other disciplines. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
